Viewpoints in Sierra de Guadarrama

Viewpoints

The beauty of the Sierra de Guadarrama is undebatable, and there is no need to prove it, it is obvious. But just in case someone doubted it, there are natural or human-made viewpoints. Their main purpose is to contribute to the correct understanding of the main landscapes of the district, that is, to further enhance its beauty and show it from a unique location. Sierra de Guadarrama is rich in viewpoints. All of them have something special but, if you had to choose the most relevant ones, eight could be selected, the ones that are listed in the book Lectura del Paisaje de la Comarca Alto Guadarrama Alto Manzanares: Un Legado Histórico (Landscape Reading of the Alto Guadarrama Alto Manzanares District: A Historical Legacy), published by ADESGAM.

Alto del Hilo Viewpoint

From the viewpoint of the Hilo de Becerril de la Sierra hill, you can get a 360˚ view of the Sierra. By simply turning one´s body or changing one´s position it is possible to see to the north, La Maliciosa and Bola del Mundo, to the south, La Cabeza Mediana, to the east, La Cuerda de los Porrones and to the west, Cerro de las Cabezas.

La Pelona Viewpoint

The views from the La Pelona Viewpoint in Cercedilla are not to be missed. From this viewpoint, you can see, in the foreground, the green fields of Cercedilla-Los Molinos basin. There is a namesake viewpoint in Guadarrama from where you can see many of the main peaks of the Sierra, such as La Maliciosa and Cabeza Mediana.

The viewpoint of the dam of Navacerrada Reservoir

If you walk around the Navacerrada Reservoir, do not forget to look at the horizon, because there are also spectacular views of the Navacerrada dam and depression. It is an excellent place for watching water birds whose habitat is this sheet of water.

 Mount “El Chaparral” Viewpoint

El Mirador del Chaparral is another impressive viewpoint. It is located in Manzanares El Real, and from it, you can see the entire Cuerda Larga, the whole of La Pedriza and the Samburiel and Manzanares Valley. The whole town is also perfectly visible, as in a postcard. The Quebrantaherraduras Viewpoint is in the same town. From it, one can look down on the central sector of the Cuerda Larga and on the upper stretch of the Manzanares River.

Virgen del Rosario Country Chapel Viewpoint

Virgen del Rosario Country Chapel Viewpoint is located in the municipal area of Soto del Real, and from it, you can get a panoramic view of the district and the surrounding areas.

San Antonio Country Chapel Viewpoint

San Antonio Country Chapel Viewpoint is in Navacerrada, and the views of Cerro de la Golondrina and La Maliciosa, as well as the Navacerrada Reservoir,  are unbeatable.

Quebrantaherraduras Viewpoint

This viewpoint is located in La Pedriza, Manzanares El Real, and offers excellent views. The impressive granite formations of the La Pedriza, Cuerda Larga, the pine forest and the headwaters of the Manzanares River stand out.
