Location and Access:
The Alto del Hilo hill is located in the municipality of Becerril de la Sierra. You can access this natural viewpoint by walking from the Navacerrada reservoir dam or, if preferred, by a short and pleasant walk (around 15 minutes) along a sandy track that begins at the barrier near the M-617 road (at a sharp bend around kilometer 55.5).
Visual Range
This viewpoint offers excellent views with a 360º field of vision, allowing for small movements to find the best locations along the hill’s highest points.
- To the north, you can see the Barranca Valley, Alto de las Guarramillas (Bola del Mundo), and La Maliciosa.
- To the south, Cabeza Mediana and the Sierra de Hoyo.
- To the east, Cuerda de los Porrones (and with some attention, the summit of Yelmo), Cabeza Illecas, and Cerro de San Pedro.
- To the west, Cerro de las Cabezas and the Navacerrada reservoir in the foreground, the Sierra del Castillo, and the highlands and hills north of Jarahonda at mid-range, with the Alto del León-La Peñota alignment on the horizon.
Identifiable Landscape Units
From this viewpoint, the observer can identify, fully or partially, the following landscape units:
- The peaks and slopes of La Maliciosa.
- Cuerda Larga.
- The hills of Navacerrada, Becerril de la Sierra, and Collado Mediano.
- Sierra de Hoyo.
- Sierra de los Porrones.
- Cabeza Illescas and the meadows and pastures in the depressions of Cerceda, Manzanares, and Soto del Real.
Observations
This is not an institutionalized viewpoint, so there are no interpretive panels. It is recommended to have a map to locate the most important geographic landmarks. It is also advisable to bring binoculars in your backpack for a better experience.
