The 13 Essentials

The Sierra de Guadarrama, located just 45 minutes from Madrid, is a region of great natural, cultural and scenic value that has great biodiversity and ecological wealth, an incomparable setting for enjoying and observing nature, practice sports, or just relax. Among many trails, one can enjoy “The 13 Essentials of Sierra de Guadarrama”, awarded Best Trail of 2018 at the contest organized by Turinea, the biggest web portal of theme trails in Spain. 

A key tourist resource is presented along the trail, in each of the 13 municipalities a different and special one (museums, archaeological sites, tracks, civil and religious architecture with references to intangible cultural heritage …). The territory has several legal frameworks that guarantee the conservation of its natural assets. A large part of this territory is included in the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park and the Upper Manzanares River Basin Biosphere Reserve and is home to species such as the black vulture, the mountain goat, the Iberian imperial eagle and the Elizabethan butterfly.
