Learning in the nature
Discover, Appreciate, Enjoy, and Protect…
The Sierra de Guadarrama is home to remarkable natural and scenic values that have captured the interest of many scientists, artists, intellectuals, and educators throughout its history.
The Sierra de Guadarrama has always been a large classroom of nature, where one can learn about and explore all aspects of the landscape—natural, geological, and geographical. Understanding the Sierra de Guadarrama and its values is crucial to preserving and conserving them for future generations, as well as ensuring that current generations can continue to enjoy and benefit from the advantages of being in close contact with nature.
As early as 1876, Giner de los Ríos, along with other university professors, founded the Institución Libre de Enseñanza (Free Institution of Education). Its essence was a “connection to nature and the landscape, one of the most valuable means of improving human development.” Giner de los Ríos played a significant role in promoting the knowledge and appreciation of the Sierra de Guadarrama.
Today, there are many professionals, businesses, and centres dedicated to raising awareness, educating, and bringing the values of the Sierra de Guadarrama closer to both locals and visitors. They share their knowledge and passion for the natural environment by involving everyone through recreational activities, making a notable contribution to the conservation of the Sierra de Guadarrama.
