La Maliciosa Peak and the Sierra de los Porrones
El Boalo, Cerceda and Matalepino municipality is located not far from the La Maliciosa Peak and from the Sierra de los Porrones, also called Cuerda de los Porrones or Cuerda del Hilo. This is an emblematic area of the Sierra de Guadarrama and for decades it has been visited by mountaineers and hikers. It is part of the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park and of the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares Regional Park. The La Maliciosa of 2,227 m altitude, with its singular shape, was painted by Velázquez; it can tell plenty of stories about bandits and hikers heading towards its mountain passes.
The area of the Sierra de los Porrones is also included in the Natura 2000 Network and in the Biosphere Reserve. Ice, wind and livestock have shaped it and created the peculiar shapes of its granite stones which hide a multitude of caves some used by shepherds and others full of history, such as the Maquis Cave.
