Location and Access
The viewpoint is located in the municipality of Navacerrada, specifically at the dam of the eponymous reservoir. Access can be made from Becerril de la Sierra via the M-861 road, or if preferred, from the M-601 road, either from Navacerrada or from the Roblelpoyo pass junction.
Visual Range
This viewpoint allows you to observe in detail both the Navacerrada depression, which is almost entirely occupied by the reservoir, and the reliefs that delimit it to the north, east, and west, staying true to the very name of the village (the “closed plain”). Another feature of this observation platform is the opportunity for birdwatching, especially of the aquatic birds that inhabit this significant body of water (mallards, grebes, gulls, cormorants, and other migratory birds).
Identifiable Landscape Units
From the viewpoint, you can identify, either fully or partially, the following landscape units:
- The hills of Navacerrada, Collado Mediano, and Becerril.
- The Cuerda Larga (the Alto de las Guarramillas sector).
- The summits and slopes of La Maliciosa.
Observations
This is not an institutionalized viewpoint, but it is possible to stop with your vehicle without any risk. It is recommended to have a map to identify the most relevant geographical landmarks. Bringing binoculars in your backpack is highly advisable for a better experience.
