Road bike: the area of mountain passes

In our mountain area, bike lovers find for good reason fantastic scenery for their trips; in these parts, there are some of the highest mountain passes in the Madrid province. Those cyclists looking for cycling at altitude and testing their legs find here the Navacerrada Pass, which is the highest pass, as well as the Morcuera Pass and the Lions´Pass (Puerto de los Leones).

Guadarrama Pass – Alto del León (1511 m):

This is a historic mountain pass, initially used during the Roman Empire. It passes through the Sierra de Guadarrama and links Segovia with the Madrid province via the La Coruña motorway (N-VI). Due to its 1511 m altitude, one can ascend 545 m and reach the neighbouring town of Guadarrama in only 8,7 km.

 Navacerrada Pass (1858 m):

At 1,858 meters, Navacerrada Pass separates Segovia from the Madrid province via the M601 road. This is the highest altitude mountain pass in the Madrid province, in the Sierra de Guadarrama, as well as one of the highest passes in the country. It is one of the most travelled through and only natural pass between Bola del Mundo and Seven Peaks. It hosts a ski resort and several tourist facilities such as restaurants and accommodation. Navacerrada is located 9 km from it and there is a difference of altitude of 655 m between the two.

 Morcuera Pass (1796 m):

This is the third-highest pass of the Madrid province and has the same altitude as the Fuenfria Pass, which is also located in the Sierra de Guadarrama. A pass crossed by the M-611 road. From Miraflores de la Sierra, at 1200 m altitude, around 600 meters of height difference get done in 10 km, with a gradient of 4-6% on average.

 Canencia Pass (1524 m):

Due to its rural nature, this is one of the lowest altitudes and less travelled through passes in the Sierra de Guadarrama. On weekends and bank holidays, it becomes a busy place because of its scenery and its environmental values. Pines surround the area.

And for those who prefer more peaceful cycling, there are options at the bottom of our valleys.
